Monique Coleman Commemorates the 15th Anniversary of High School Musical and to Guest Star on Family Reunion
Monique Coleman celebrated the 15th Anniversary of High School Musical with a tweet commenting on how the date fell on the same day of the Inauguration. She wrote: “When the 15 yr anniversary of High School Musical happens to fall on #inauguration202 & you realize #TaylorforPresident could actually be a real thing someday.”
Monique also spoke to the Insider recently about what it was like playing Taylor McKessie and how she enjoyed the magic of collaborating with Kenny Ortega for the “We’re All In This Together” dance. Monique also commented on how her character often wore headbands because of the lack of experience the hair stylists on set had in styling African American hair. Social media was a buzz with support for Monique and similar stories shared from other actresses in the industry about how African American women have been overlooked when it comes to the industry. We appreciate Monique for speaking up and being an advocate of change in all that she does and a pioneer in the industry with her initiatives for youth and women.
Monique recently filmed an episode of “Family Reunion” on Netflix, also starring Loretta Devine and Tia Mowry-Hardrict. She wrote in a post on Instagram:
I booked the job at 8pm on Friday night and was on set the following Monday at 9am. Less than 72 hours later.

Let this be a reminder that you may be closer than you think & everything you desire is just one phone call away. Don’t be deterred by your present circumstances. They can change on a dime. When I woke up that Friday, I had NO idea I was going to be spending the following week making magic with my friends & sharing the screen with the incomparable @lodivadevine ♥️ Not all surprises are bad. #expectmiracles
