Zoe’s Dolls: Zoe Overcomes Bullying and Empowers Girls To Love the Skin They’re In

zoesdollsnickawardsI love what Zoe Terry is doing to help instill confidence and self-love in girls. Her organization Zoe’s dolls gives African American dolls to children who may not have had a doll that looked like them. Zoe realized the importance of representation after she was bullied and she wanted to make sure other girls could stand tall and be proud in their complexion. Zoe has been featured in numerous outlets including Good Morning America and TED Talks.

Brainstorm: What’s a need in the community that you’re passionate about? How can you start your own organization or start collecting items to help others?

Today was beyond unbelievable! We kicked off our Black History Month Doll Giveaways. We started it in a BIG way! Good Morning America has came to film the Zoe’s Dolls Movement. It started out at my school where they filmed me going to class and hanging with some of my friends. They also filmed the awesome Karen Davis Athanassiadis and all the work she has done with me. Next stop was off to the doll giveaway with Me and my girls Essence and Zion to bring smiles to some girls’ faces! I will be in the studio live with Good Morning America in NY this month! I am beyond excited! @hasbro thank you for being a huge part of this! @goodmorningamerica thank you for thinking my vision is worth sharing! Katelyn Ohashi’s Gymnastics Dance Routine Amazes and Inspires

I love how gymnastics sensation Katelyn Ohashi inspires us to dance and be free to be ourselves. On Good Morning America she addresses her past insecurities about her body image in an original poem. She says, “I am my own size and no words or stares will make me compromise.”

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? Mr. Rogers Inspires Us All To Be Kind

Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is a movie telling the story of Mr. Rogers who lived as a gift to us all! He inspired children to love, be compassionate and to get through tough times and I think his message is so relevant to today. I’m excited to see the film, are you?

Above watch the official trailer for the movie, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? #MrRogersMovie

From Academy Award® -winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), Won’t You Be My Neighbor? takes an intimate look at America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this emotional and moving film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.

Wonder the Movie Inspires Us to Choose Kindness

wondermovieI so can’t wait to see the new movie Wonder starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay! The movie’s based on a great best-selling novel by R.J. Palacio and will warm your heart and inspire you to be yourself and be kind to others. Watch the trailer and visit www.wonder.movie to find out more.

Based on the New York Times bestseller, WONDER tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman. Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

We’re All In This Together: Love Always Wins

lovealwayswins

One love, one heart…We are one in Love? – no matter what the media or society says we were all created by God in His image and He has the last say. With all that’s going on in the world today sometimes we might ask…ummm where’s the love? It’s okay to cry, to address our hurt and feelings, to have discussions and even protests and take action against injustice – but always remember that this fight is multifaceted. When we see that the biggest fight is Light vs. darkness, Good vs. evil and take action on every front then #lovewins.

All throughout history darkness and fear tries to divide us by race, gender and differences but we are stronger together for our battle is not against people, flesh and blood but it’s in the spiritual realm. “There is no us vs them. There is only ALL OF US. We’re all in.” – Glennon Doyle Melton

Maybe Bob Marley said it best in his song:
One love, (What about the one heart)
One heart, (What about love)
Let’s get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One love)
So shall it be in the end (One heart)
Alright, “Let’s give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.”
