Win Seed Money to Grow Your Business Though mtvU’s Movers and Changers

Have a BIG idea and want to win $50,000 to start your business? MTVU is looking for Movers and Changers who want to make a difference through entrepreneurship:

Successful, world-known companies like Fed Ex, Nike and Under Armour all started from young entrepreneurs who only had minimal funds and resources, but gained success with their vision, innovation and determination. And today, companies like Foursquare and Gilt Group, are following that same model of success. If YOU’RE a young entrepreneur looking to start a company, mtvU and the New York Stock Exchange want to help you get started.

We’re looking for 16-28 year old college students to develop and produce a compelling business proposal. Ideas must be original, feasible, scalable, and practical.

The top 5 finalist business plans will be posted online for voting and the winning team will be flown to New York City in November to attend Global Entrepreneurship Week where they will ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange and attend the NYSE Movers and Changers Forum. The winner will also receive $25,000 in seed money to help his or her company start off on the right foot. The deadline for entries is October 3, 2011.

A Lemonade Stand for a Cause

The Midway Lemonade Girls turn a setback into a chance to give back…

This summer three Georgia girls decided to help their neighborhood beat the heat by starting a lemonade stand. Nicknamed the Midway Lemonade Girls, the three young entrepreneurs Kasity Dixon, Skylar Roberts and Tiffany Cassin, set up sale but not long afterwards had their lemonade stand shut down by police in their hometown because they didn’t have a business license.

The local Summer Waves Water Park heard about their story and invited the girls and their families to spend a free of cost day to cool down at Summer Waves. The Midway Lemonade Girls were named “honorary lifeguards,” and sold their famous lemonade to thirsty Summer Waves patrons on Sunday, July 31st. The Jekyll Island Authority staff also built the girls their very own lemonade stand for use at the park.

The girls have also used their setback to give back to the community. 10% of their proceeds at the park will go toward their hometown animal shelter, Liberty County Humane Shelter. Way to turn lemons (literally) into lemonade!

Editors Journal: Launching Dreams Into Reality – Young Entrepreneurs Can Make a Difference

editorsdeskbannereditorpicEntrepreneurship is an amazing opportunity for you to make a difference in the world right where you are. I especially encourage young people – whether you are a kid or teen – to try out entrepreneurship or starting a community service venture while you’re young because there are so many opportunities and benefits available for you. Not only will you create a profit, have access to grants and various entrepreneurship programs, and the support of parents, teachers and other adults, you will also learn things many grown-ups wish they had learned earlier. It’s like getting a head-start on your future!

There’s nothing like being able to do what you love while helping people around you. To me, that’s what entrepreneurship is all about – matching a passion you have with an idea to serve others, and then putting your plan into action. Young people can do amazing things that affect and inspire the lives of others when they take their entrepreneurial ideas into flight; here’s my journey as a young CEO and social venturer that I shared with a great organization and website called Raising CEO Kids

By the way, be sure to check out the giveaways Raising CEO Kids is doing EVERY DAY this week to celebrate National Entrepreneurship Week! Visit http://raisingceokids.com/category/happenings/
